A NOTE FROM STEVE
I first knew something was different when I was in school. I was never an A student. I had real trouble focusing, and real trouble remembering. I'd sit down to do one thing and get gobbled up in other things. That was my whole childhood.
Tests were the hardest part. What I studied wouldn't stay with me, so I crammed all night before every one, hoping it would last long enough to get me through. If you've ever done that, you know how tired you are when you walk into that room.
For a long time, my bad days started the same way. I'd wake up with no plan. No game plan at all. My thinking went in so many directions that nothing got my full attention, and by the time I went to sleep, nothing had gotten done.
You weren't lazy. Your brain just had nothing to hold on to.
Somewhere along the way I learned something that changed my life. The way things are doesn't have to be permanent. It took concentrated effort and committed practice, day after day. Little by little, I learned I could manage this. My brain still races. I've just learned to put it to work.
I wrote this book because a lot of people feel the way I felt in that classroom, and I don't think I should keep what helped me to myself. I think about young people cramming all night before a test, and about their parents trying so hard to help. I want every one of you to know these strategies exist.
Steve
None of these are about trying harder. They're about setting things up so the next step is easier.
Every evening I write down three things I'm going to start tomorrow. Not ten. Just three. When I wake up, the list is waiting, so I don't have to figure out where to begin.
Fifteen minutes for my whole inbox at the start of the day, and fifteen more before the end. It's a box with edges, and email has to stay inside it. The rest of the time, I do the real work.
Every call and follow-up goes into my calendar, synced to my phone and watch. When a reminder comes up, I give myself 30 seconds to get to it. The longer I wait, the more chance I get pulled into something else.
Every chapter follows one simple pattern: one fact from the research or a trusted public health source, with a source you can look up. One hack, a small change you can try today at work or at home. One assist, an optional copy and paste AI prompt that does the boring part for you.
324 pages. 21 short chapters. 55 sources, with links. 7 printables in the bundle.
Know your brain. The foundations: sleep, exercise, food and caffeine. Hacks at work: starting tasks, time blindness, email, meetings and follow-ups. Hacks at home: chores, money, relationships and big feelings. AI as your helper. And a 30-day plan plus a plan for bad brain days.
You don't have to read it front to back. Jump to the problem in front of you, try one idea this week, and keep what works.
