You've got a list of places you keep meaning to try. You never remember them when you're actually hungry and nearby.

Google just pointed Gemini at that problem. On October 22, Google said that, with your permission, Gemini Personal Intelligence can now use your Google Maps searches and saved places alongside your Google Calendar to give you recommendations for your day. 9to5Google covered it the same day.

How Gemini Personal Intelligence works with Maps

Personal Intelligence is the Gemini feature that uses your own stuff, like emails, docs and photos, so you don't have to explain everything every time. It could already reach services like Search and Maps. What's new is that it can see your Maps searches and the places you've saved.

Google's own example is a question like this one. "I have a list of restaurants I've been meaning to try. What's the best spot for after my meetings today?" Gemini checks where your last meeting is and finds saved places near it.

That's a small thing. But small things are where your day goes.

Ways to use Gemini with Maps at work and home

A few questions I'd try:

  • "I've got errands after work. Which of my saved stores are closest to my last meeting?"

  • "I'm picking the kids up at 4. Is there a coffee spot I've saved nearby?"

  • "Where should I meet a friend for lunch near my 1 PM appointment?"

The value is skipping the back and forth between your calendar, your map and your memory. You ask once and get an answer that fits the day you actually have.

Check your privacy settings first

Here's the blunt part. This only works because Gemini can see where you go and what's on your calendar. That's a lot of personal information.

Before you turn it on, look at what you've saved. Saved places can include a doctor's office, a lawyer or a friend's home address. Calendar entries can carry private details too. If you wouldn't want an assistant reading it, clean it up first or don't connect it.

You switch Personal Intelligence on yourself from Gemini's personalization settings, so it's your call.

Try this today

  1. Go to gemini.google.com/personalization-settings and read what Personal Intelligence connects to.

  2. Open Google Maps and save a handful of places you really want to visit, like a lunch spot, a hardware store or a park for the kids.

  3. Tomorrow morning, ask Gemini: "Based on my calendar today, which of my saved places fit around my plans?"

  4. If the answer saves you a search, keep it. If it doesn't, switch it off.

If you don't see the Maps option yet, check back in a few days.
