Hey there,

Happy Friday. You made it. This is the day the little errands start stacking up: the package you keep forgetting to return, guests who need the Wi-Fi, and that meeting that somehow turns into six emails.

So this issue has three small fixes for exactly that. One pings you when you arrive somewhere, one shares Wi-Fi without spelling a password, and one books meetings in a single reply. Plus a Friday bonus you won't see on my socials.

Hack 1: Remind Me When I Get There

Quick win: A reminder at 3 PM does not help when you are not there. Let your phone ping you when you arrive, or when you leave.

  1. Open Reminders on your iPhone and add a new reminder, like "Return the library books."

  2. Tap the Location button (the arrow) and pick a suggested place, or tap Custom and search for an address.

  3. Choose Arriving or Leaving.

  4. Drag the circle on the map to set how close you need to be before it pings you.

Why it works: The reminder shows up where you can actually act on it. No more second trips. Siri can do it too: say "Remind me to take the gift when I leave home." Home and work need to be saved on your own contact card for that to work, and Location Services must be on.

Hack 2: Share Wi-Fi With a QR Code

Quick win: Stop reading a 16-character password off the back of the router. Your phone can turn your Wi-Fi into a QR code in a few taps.

  1. iPhone (iOS 18 or later): open the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, pick your network, then tap Show Network QR Code.

  2. Android: go to Settings, then Network and internet, then Internet, tap your network, then tap Share. On Samsung it is Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, the gear next to your network, then QR Code.

  3. Your guest points their phone camera at the code and taps Join. It works for iPhone and Android guests alike.

  4. Screenshot the code and print it. Tape it inside a kitchen cabinet, in the guest room or in the office break room.

Why it works: No spelling it out, no typos, and nobody crawling behind the TV. For visitors, turn on a guest network if your router has one and print that code instead, so your main password stays private.

Hack 3: Offer Two Times

Quick win: Stop asking "When works for you?" It starts a chain of emails. Offer two real times instead.

  1. Pick two open slots on your calendar that actually work for you.

  2. Reply with both of them in one line: "Tuesday at 10 or Thursday at 2?"

  3. Add the time zone if they are far away.

  4. When they pick one, send the invite right away.

Why it works: They answer in one reply and you are done. It works for work calls, the plumber and coffee with friends. One decision beats a week of back-and-forth.

Bonus Hack (email only): The Waiting Pocket List

Quick win: Waiting rooms, pickup lines and hold music used to be dead time. Give that time a tiny job list.

  1. Open Notes on your phone and make a list called "Waiting."

  2. Keep three to five two-minute tasks on it: reply to one text, schedule a refill, pay a small bill, star an email you need later.

  3. When you sit down to wait, open that list instead of scrolling.

  4. Cross one off, then put the phone away if you still have time.

Why it works: You stop filling every spare minute with the feed, and the small stuff that usually steals your evening gets done in the cracks of the day.

Your turn: What is the first location reminder you would set? Hit reply and tell me. I read every one.
